AN OUTBREAK of a winter vomiting bug has led to the total closure of two wards and the partial closure of another at York Hospital.

The outbreak, which was first reported more than a week ago on Ward 11, was now beginning to have an “impact in the hospital”, according to a trust spokeswoman.

She said: “Norovirus and other diarrhoea and vomiting bugs have been prevalent in the community for some time, and we are starting to see an impact in the hospital. We currently have two-and-a-half wards closed to new admissions.

“Affected wards are closed to visitors other than for essential visits at the discretion of the ward manager. Visitors can call the hospital before visiting to find out if a particular ward is closed, and up-to-date information about closures is also available on display screens in the main entrance.”
