I WAS lucky to win two tickets for the Rowntree Players production of The Rise & Fall of Little Voice, courtesy of The Press.
I went with a friend and can’t praise the performance of all the actors highly enough. They were outstanding.
It is maybe unfair to pick out individuals, but I have to mention Grace Lancaster, whose performance as Little Voice was mesmerising. What a wonderful actress and her singing was outstanding.
Jeanette Hunter who played her mum, Mari, was brilliant. And not forgetting Rachel Parkinson, who played her friend, Sadie. She was a joy to watch, especially when she did her raunchy dance scene; it was side-splitting! All the male actors were excellent too. Many thanks go to director Nik Briggs and the whole group for a fantastic evening.

• Mention must be made of the success of yet another Music Night at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on Sunday.
These events are major fund-raising efforts to keep this gem of a theatre in business. The exuberant Don Pears brought together the wonderfully talented Steve Cassidy and his band and a group of soloists who delighted us with music from over the decades of the Queen’s reign.
We the audience, mostly of a certain age, grew up with this music; we loved it then and we re- lived it on Sunday night. We know a good thing when we hear it and it came up to expectations, judging by the full house and generous applause.
Finally, a word about the stewards; ever immaculately turned out, smiling, helpful and all volunteers.
