A TELEVISION actor who grew up in York has recorded the voiceover for part of new visitor attraction Chocolate – York’s Sweet Story.

Steven Hartley, who was born in Shipley but lived in York between 1972 and 1981, was chosen to do the voice over for the attraction’s Origins exhibition, which tells the story of chocolate from Central America’s rainforests to finding a home in York, because he has a York accent.

Steven attended Danesmead Secondary School in York where he realised his passion for boxing and joined York City Amateur Boxing club in 1976 and became part of the York ABC team.

In 1976, he transferred to Archbishop Holgate’s to do his A-levels and had his first job with local removals firm Whitby Oliver.

In 1981 he moved to London, and has since appeared in a number of films, plays and television programmes, including Vera, The Borgias and Merlin in the past year, and previously Casualty, Holby City, The Bill, Eastenders and Where The Heart Is.
