THE Press of February 23 had two articles of particular interest: the closure of Burnholme Community College due to small numbers of students and the expansion plan for Knavesmire Primary School due to increasing numbers.
Hence, in a few years time secondary places will be required right across the city of York.
Is City of York Council looking at making secondary schools larger – up to 1,500 students per school – or are they able to support Burnholme Community College for a few years while the student population increases?
Or are they planning to build a new secondary school in 2016 – the latest possible date for completion in 2018?
As a former student of Burnholme Secondary School – a qualified teacher and now retired but still assisting in a voluntary capacity – I am very disappointed in the lack of support for the college.
