RECENTLY I was surprised to receive a parking summons for an apparent parking offence at Monks Cross.

Two pictures of my car were included with times when taken on the same day. The times were more than four hours apart. I agreed I’d been there at those times. I was asked to pay an £80 fine for over-staying the four-hour free period.

I disagreed for the following reason. Although I didn’t dispute the photo evidence, I was not parked there during the intervening period: I went home to Haxby for the afternoon and after collecting my wife returned to Monks Cross around tea time.

I asked them to check their cameras for traffic entering and leaving the site. I then received a second letter stating my appeal had “no supporting evidence” and demanding payment or legal action would follow!

I visited the Monks Cross site office to explain again why I would not be paying the fine. They accepted my explanation but I still received two more letters requesting payment.

I was thinking that this parking situation must arise quite often if people make two trips to Monks Cross in one day so be ready to appeal!
