COCKTAIL creators at a York bar have come up with a range of drinks which really offer cold comfort.

The nitro cocktails are now available at the Biltmore Bar and Grill in Swinegate, with liquid nitrogen – starting off at a eye-watering minus 193 degrees – being poured into glasses and reacting with oxygen to give a smoking cauldron effect.

Staff have been specially trained and fully certified to handle the chemical, with head bartender Matt Sykes putting the knowledge he has gained through studying astrophysics at university to good use and taking charge of the dramatic drinks.

“I’ve really enjoyed experimenting with the nitrogen and I feel we have created some ‘wow factor’ cocktails,” he said.

“Customers love watching them being created and are amazed how fun and visual they really are. It’s ideal for a bit of theatre while enjoying a fabulous cocktail.”
