THE largest junior sevens rugby tournament in the country is set to get under way at Terrington Hall.

The Ryedale school hosts its under-11s tournament next Wednesday, while the U13s will take to the pitch the following week on Wednesday, March 7.

Teams from 13 schools will play in the U11s, competing in the Cup, Plate and Bowl. They are: Aysgarth, Belmont Grosvenor, Birkdale, Bow School, Bramcote/Woodleigh, Cundall Manor, Lyndhurst, Mowden Hall, Newcastle School for Boys, St Martin’s Ampleforth, St Olave’s, Sedbergh and Terrington Hall.

Play starts at 2pm with the finals of each competition expected to be held around 4.30pm.

A bumper entry of 20 schools compete in the U13s division, the 14th time the tournament has been staged.

The schools are: Aysgarth, Barnard Castle, Birkdale, Bramcote/Woodleigh, Cundall Manor, Durham School, Easingwold School, Giggleswick, Merchiston Castle, Mount St Mary’s, Mowden Hall, Pocklington, Ryedale School, Sedbergh, St Martin’s Ampleforth, St Olave’s, Scarborough College, Terrington Hall and Yarm.

The teams will arrive at Terrington Hall from noon onwards. Play starts at 1pm. with the finals of the Cup, Plate, Bowl and Shield competitions taking place at around 4.30pm.
