DOMINANT York Schoolboys U13s’ 8-3 victory at Leeds propelled them to top spot in the Carnegie Trans-Pennine League, writes Samuel Burton.

The opening five minutes brought two goals as York opened the scoring through an assured finish from George Brown, only to have their lead cancelled out after a handball offence in the box allowed Leeds to equalise from 12 yards.

Some fine first-half attacking play ensured York headed into half-time with a comfortable 3-1 lead as striker Lewis Ducey first teed up Will Hall and then went on to grab a deserved goal.

A second-half rout started when centre-back Jacob Smith scored the goal of the game with a rocket of a strike from outside the area.

The goals continued to flow as Alex Wilson and Elliot Fenton made it 6-1, while Ducey and George Brown both ended the game with a brace.

The two consolation goals scored by Leeds were not enough to stop York recording a huge victory.

Next up for York are home and away fixtures against Liverpool to determine the destination of the trophy.

An impressive unbeaten league run was maintained as York U14s held a reliant Barnsley side to an exciting 3-3 draw.

A first period dominated by York saw Ben Hirst open the scoring and that was soon followed by a penalty won and scored by Joey McCormick.

Barnsley scored late in the half to go in with a 2-1 scoreline.

In the second half, York wasted a number of opportunities and Barnsley managed to weather the storm and hit York with an equaliser 15 minutes from time.

In the closing stages, defender Myles Frodsham scored what looked to be the winner with five minutes to go, but an unstoppable drive from the edge of the area earned Barnsley a share of the spoils.

The point means York are still on target to win the league.

Unbeaten form that has headed into a fifth month saw York U15s hold Barnsley to a 1-1 draw.

Windy first-half conditions in favour of York could have made for a comfortable victory, but a succession of spurned chances meant the sides went in goalless at half-time.

York finally broke the deadlock after the interval when Oli James worked hard to set up Tom Robinson, who slid the ball under the Barnsley ’keeper.

The game continued in an end-to-end manner until Barnsley grabbed a deserved equaliser from a superb volley following a free-kick.

York left-back Henry Swires collected the man of the match award for a powerful display.

York U11s earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Leeds in the Trans-Pennine Premiership.

Leeds, playing with the wind, heaped pressure on York in the first half but goalkeeper Cameron Bilham was in fine form, keeping the hosts at bay in a man-of-the-match performance.

Alfie Atkinson was unlucky to miss the target on several occasions for the visitors. Second-half conditions favoured York and an improvement was seen, although Leeds remained the better side.

York now take on Bradford for a place in the Yorkshire Cup semi-finals.

York U12s completed a league and cup double over Worksop and Retford, adding a 1-0 league win to their 2-0 success in the West Yorkshire Cup quarter-finals the previous weekend.

After a first-half stalemate, York were indebted to ’keeper Adam Precious for a one-on-one save.

York then took the lead on 50 minute mark when a strike from Max Tweddle hit the woodwork and Josh Rogerson pounced on the loose ball to score.

The home side closed out the match well to earn a well-deserved three points.
