From reports it would appear Prime Minister David Cameron agrees people should have a say as to whether they want to have unsightly, inefficient wind-turbines foisted on them.

Wind-powered generators are an anachronism, as they generate no electricity without wind or, bizarrely, in moderately windy conditions.

Because of this hit and miss generating capacity, wind turbines are not in keeping with a 21st-century, high-manufacturing, high-population country.

At best they are a back-up system, at worst useless.

As readers will be aware, I favour nuclear power stations. Unfortunately, whenever the subject is raised, a sort of mass hysteria arises and people are rarely willing to discuss the subject rationally.

Nuclear power stations are highly efficient and, compared to any traditional coal-fired power stations, very clean.

Admittedly, because of the stringent safety mechanisms, nuclear power is very costly, but once built their running costs are low (France wouldn’t have built some 58 nuclear power-stations should they not be viable).

There are some 435 nuclear power stations worldwide, with another 63 under construction, so it would appear that the green phobia about nuclear power in this country is flawed.

A rational discussion on nuclear power would be welcome.
