AM-AM competitions have drawn a glowing response from members and visiting clubs at Sandburn Hall Golf Club.

The club’s clubhouse manager Emma Brown said that during the winter a brace of Am-Am tournaments attracted maximum fields.

“We had numbers of more than 100 players for each event,” said Brown, adding how the drainage work at the club which ensured it remained open for most of the winter was benefiting the number of competition entries.

She was expecting a similar number for the first such event of spring on March 20 at the course, which is on the Flaxton Road just off the A64.

Said Brown: “The Am-Ams have been particularly popular and not just with our own club membership, but also with visiting parties.

“The March event is filling up nicely, so I would expect at least the same number again playing in it.”

The continuous programme of improvements at Sandburn Hall have continued apace during the winter with the turfing of newly-sculptured bunkers at three holes – the second, seventh and tenth – now taking root.
