A LONG illustrious history was marked this week as Selby Golf Club ladies’ section celebrated their centenary with a dinner held at the clubhouse, writes Samuel Burton.
Many members of the ladies section, including current captain Margaret Binks were in attendance for the event.
The earliest records of lady members stretch back to January 1908, though the first annual general meeting of the ladies’ section was held on February, 22 1912 at the Museum Hall in Park Street, Selby.
Membership during the 100-year history of the section dates back to the first lady captain, Miss F Armstong.
Interest in the ladies’ section is booming as the club currently boasts 110 members and is the third largest ladies’ section in Yorkshire, fielding three successful teams.
