RESEARCH by the University of York into how violent conflict can be tackled through education has been launched in America.
The work, entitled Education in Conflict and Emergencies, looks at how education can help against violence, assist post-conflict recovery and build lasting peace.
The York research was co-founded by Professor Sultan Barakat and Dr David Connolly from the University’s Post-war Reconstruction and Development Unit (PRDU), and Professor Frank Hardman from the Institute for Effective Education (IEE).
It was officially launched at a University of York alumni event in New York this week, involving delegates from the University of Colombia and NYU, who have strong research interests in this area, the UN, World Bank, British Embassy and the British Council.
