Selby’S Brian Richardson was the winner of the latest round of the Acomb Tackle York & District Winter Angling League.

The Cochranes Selby rod headed a field of 48 anglers on the River Ouse below York with a haul of 5lb 8oz.

Richardson, who was drawn at the bridge field, returned a net containing three skimmers caught on ground bait feeder.

With bites hard to come by, Anglers World Holidays ace Stew Thompson was second with 5lb 2oz.

That return included one skimmer plus roach caught on ground bait feeder. Thompson was also drawn at the bridge field.

Third place went to Tang Hall’s Trev Price, with 4lb 4oz including skimmers caught on ground bait feeder.

South Bank angler D Hardy was fourth with 3lb 0oz of small roach, while M Doyle, of Leeds Angling Centre, filled fifth position with 2lb 14oz of skimmers and roach.

The next round of the league will be held on the Ouse at Donkey Woods, Fulford and Palace Ings on Sunday, February 26.

The latest match at York’s Raker Lakes attracted a field of 21, which was headed by Leeds angler John Chapman.

Chapman’s 9lb 2oz haul at peg five included two carp and a perch caught on double caster, fishing at 16 metres over loose fed caster.

He was a clear winner ahead of Dave Wright, of JT Rogers Leeds, who had 6lb at peg 27.

Another Leeds angler, Stuart Wilson, took third from peg ten with a net of 4lb 8oz, but the West Yorkshire domination was broken by York’s Paul Kozyra, with 3lb 12oz from peg three.
