THE organiser of a campaign to restore the railway line between York and Hull via Beverley has hit out after new research showed the Government spends more than ten times per head of population on transport in London than in Yorkshire.

The Institute for Public Policy Research said transport spending in London stood at £2,731 per head of population compared to only £201 in Yorkshire and the Humber.

George McManus, chairman of the Minsters’ Rail campaign, spoke of the need to invest in schemes such as the Minsters line. He said: “When we come out of recession our region will suffer due to lack of investment.”
