AN investigation into how a York primary school conducted its pupil tests has left pupils without any maths SATS results.

Last week The Press reported City of York Council had confirmed pupils from Haxby Road Primary School had finally received their English SATs results, but not their maths.

Now the investigating authority, the Qualification Curriculum Development Agency (QDCA), has said the maths results are null and void.

The finding comes after the QDCA was looking into an allegation of “maladministration” of the tests that took place at the school in May.

A spokesman for the Department of Education, on behalf of the QDCA, said: “Following an investigation into Haxby Road Primary School, it was considered that there was sufficient doubt over the validity of the maths results at Key Stage 2 to recommend that they be annulled.”

A spokeswoman for City of York Council said the pupils’ teacher assessments in maths had all been passed on to their secondary schools and many secondary schools carried out their own testing to gauge ability.

Haxby Road Primary school’s head teacher, Mike Schofield, was suspended in September while an inquiry into its Year 6 SATs was carried out.

Martin Eldred, from the Humberside area, has taken over Mr Schofield’s duties on an interim basis.

The spokeswoman for City of York Council said Mr Schofield’s suspension remained in force while the investigation continued.

Haxby Road Primary School has about 178 pupils, including 18 ten and 11-year-olds in Year 6 who took their SATs in May.

Jill Hodges, assistant director of education at City of York Council, said: “I can confirm that Haxby Road Primary School has now received their English results for the 2011 SATs examinations.

“However, the QCDA examination board found reasons for discounting the maths results.”

• SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) tests are given at the end of Years 2, 6 and 9. They are used to show a child’s progress through school. Key Stage 2 SATs take place in May and are generally more formal than the tests taken in Year 2.
