THOUSANDS of daffodil sandals, designed for a York company, have been sold to raise £45,000 for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Pavers Shoes, based in Upper Poppleton, has sold the shoes - called Fly Flot Daffodil Sandals - at its 52 shops across the country.

The flip flops feature Marie Curie's trademark yellow daffodil and 30 per cent of the proceeds of each pair has been given to the charity.

Pavers began fundraising in April as part of the charity's Great Daffodil Appeal and sold 5,000 pairs to generate the cash.

Managing director Stuart Paver said: "We're thrilled with the results gained from this appeal and the popularity of the daffodil sandal.

"It has been a best seller since going on sale in April and the stylish design has proved an instant hit with our customers."

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high-quality home nursing care to people terminally-ill with cancer.
