TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager killed in a horrific crash on the A64 at the weekend.

Jonathan Glynn, 17, died when he was hurled from the driver's seat of a blue Citroen Saxo on the westbound carriageway near the A19 Fulford interchange.

The teenager, known as Jay, an apprentice mechanic who lived in Leeds, was a skilled motorbike racer, who won several major events across the country.

His family posted a tribute on his website, Jay Glynn Racing, saying: "It is with saddened hearts that we have to tell you that Jay lost his life on Saturday 23rd September 2006, following a tragic road accident.

"They say only the good die young and boy was he good. He was a fantastic bike racer and loved his cars too."

Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident, which happened at 4.50pm on Saturday.

The Saxo careered off the road and down an embankment and Jay was prenounced dead at the scene.

Jay's girlfriend, Robyn Wishart, 15, also of Leeds, was a passenger in the car, and was taken by air ambulance to the James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough with serious injuries.
