THIS camel is just one of many magnificent beasts visiting a new exhibition in York.

Pottery spanning 2,000 years is on display at the Yorkshire Museum's Ceramic Safari exhibition.

The show opened earlier this month and the animal ceramics will be on display until the beginning of next year.

The exhibition is split into different colourful sections, including the sea, the farmyard, and even a section featuring mythical creatures like dragons and unicorns.

Ceramic Safari has been created by Helen Walsh, assistant curator of decorative art, and Pip Strang, assistant curator of biology.

Helen said: "We have a brilliant collection of animal-related ceramics at the Yorkshire Museum, and we thought it would be fun to put them on show in a way that was both educational and enjoyable for children.

"The exhibition will feature colourful animals they will know well, and hopefully some more exotic ones that are new to them."

The animals have been set out as if they were in a natural history exhibition.

There will be special educational activities including an animal trail and a pottery-making session during the October half term.
