THE second attempt to play the 16th IT Sports Ladies Doubles tennis tournament was successful as glorious sunshine greeted matches at Riccall, Dunnington and Bishopthorpe tennis centres.
Fulford teenagers Jenny Rowland and Joanne Middleton were in sparkling form at Riccall beating the other five couples to make the finals alongside runners-up Jane Pemberton and Shirley Leak from Cliffe.
Dunnington had lots of close matches with Wheldrake's Lynette Duggleby and Angela Smith victors, winning a total of 25 games. Joyce Rhodes and Sue Sumner, of the host club, won 22 games to book their place in the finals.
Bishopthorpe tennis centre had holders Jill McCreedy and Jill Rounce in top gear winning each round. Runners-up from Rowntree Park, Jean Jaram and the experienced Sandra Robinson, will do battle in the finals at Fulford tennis centre at 1.30pm Sunday, October 22.
Teams playing winter tennis, starting week ending October 28 and finishing March 8, are: Wistow, Bubwith, Dunnington, Riccall, Cliffe, Fulford A' and B' teams, Starbeck, Knaresborough, Bishopthorpe, Tollerton, New Earswick, Pocklington.
