A NATIONAL march against rail privatisation came to York today.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport Union's protest reached the city on the fifth leg of a two-week, 14 city demonstration from Glasgow- to-London to put the case for rail re-nationalisation.

Marchers from all over Britain assembled at Clifford's Tower before marching through the city to York Railway Station.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow was then due to speak at a public meeting at the Crescent Working Men's Club.

There was due to be a discussion on where the strategic review of Northern Rail as well as plans to downgrade rural rail lines in Yorkshire and Humberside.
