YORK youngsters have been dressing down to help tsunami victims.

Staff and students at All Saints' School have raised £2,155.88 through events such as a home clothes day and bucket collections.

Sixth former Laura Duggan raised £125 by doing a sponsored silence for a whole day, which, her teachers said, was a real commitment for the teenager.

Headteacher Bill Scriven said: "Considering how much money families have already contributed to the disaster fund, this is an incredible amount of money to have raised so quickly.

"I had secretly hoped to raise £1000. To more than double that is an expression of the determination of All Saints' staff and pupils desire to help."
