A PENSIONER died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree near Selby.
The 77-year-old man was a back seat passenger in a silver Skoda Felicia which collided with a tree on the A63 South Milford to Leeds road, at about 6.10pm on Sunday.
Police said the car failed to negotiate a bend, about 100 yards on the Lumby side of the Battersby roundabout junction.
The driver, a 70-year-old woman from West Yorkshire, was taken to Pontefract Hospital with injuries that were described as "non life-threatening".
But her back seat passenger, the 77-year-old man who is believed to have been her husband, suffered serious injures and later died at the same hospital.
Police closed the crash scene until 11.30pm while investigations were carried out.
Anyone who saw the accident or the car beforehand is asked to phone the central area road policing group on 0845 6060247.
