RECENT events in York remind me of a quote from King Lear: "O gods! Who is it can say I am at the worst?
I am worse than ever I was And worse may be yet: The worst is not So long as we can say this is the worst'."
King Lear is about dispossession and betrayal by those in whom one has entrusted one's kingdom.
Anyone who reads this play by Shakespeare will be struck by the parallels to what is happening in the city at York right now.
Unfortunately, it ends very badly.
