NEW Earswick Swimming Club are holding a fun day next Saturday to promote the club and their activities.

The open day will include free swimming and free lessons by Amateur Swimming Association-qualified teachers, swimming demonstrations, a tombola, raffle, lucky dip and other attractions. It will be held from 9.30am till 2.30pm.

Treasurer Christine Grainger said: "We'd like people to come along and see what's on offer, perhaps have a swim or book their child in for a sample swimming lesson."

The club offer recreational and competitive swimming, plus the benefit of qualified coaching for people of all ages.

The club is based at New Earswick pool, behind the Folk Hall in New Earswick village.

Meanwhile, New Earswick Swimming Club youngster Rebecca Galloway took top prize in her age group in the 50-metre breaststroke at the 24th annual Teaspoons Gala held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, this week.

The 12-year-old came first in a time of 40.62 seconds.
