HEWORTH Amateur Rugby League Club's Emerging 8s became the youngest team ever to represent the club when they played their first game at Birstall Victoria.

The youngsters gave a good account of themselves in an enjoyable game. Five tries from Arron McBride made him man of the match closely followed by the impressive Josh Rogerson, who crossed for three and Jack Shore, who completed the scoring with two.

Six-year-old Ben Atkin, the youngest player, topped the tackle count with some fearless tackling.

New signing Pat Garrett scored two tries on his debut as New Earswick All Blacks U13s beat Wetherby Bulldogs 34-6 in their opening Yorkshire Junior League division one match.

Another debutant, John Dey, also crossed as did Tom Holmes (2), who added five goals, and Jack Miller.

Heworth U12s enjoyed an excellent start to their season, beating a spirited Drighlington 40-12.

Outstanding defence set the platform for victory and led to a 26-0 half-time scoreline.

The Heworth pack, led by Flannan Naismith and Peter Clarke, dominated, while their backs were directed around the field by nippy scrum-half Ben Barker.

Jordan Potter at centre ran the ball strongly and ended the game with two tries. Other brace scorers were the pacy Alex Clough, Daniel Coulson and Bill Legg, while Harry Deighton kicked three conversions and Liam Jackson put one over from the touchline.

Man of the match Stuart Leeke scored a hat-trick as York Acorn U15s began their term with a deserved 36-22 win at Eastmoor Dragons.

Tyler Dawson (2), Byron Summers and Josh Mortimer also crossed while Antony Chilton booted four conversions as the young Blue and Golds excelled.

Quality displays came from Mathew Winn, Mortimer, Kyle Myers, Chris Rushworth and James Mountford.

New Earswick All Blacks' junior section got off to a fine start with the U11s winning 14-10 at Oulton Raiders.

After conceding two tries and a conversion, All Blacks bounced back with a try from Kieran Parker. Debutant Oliver Armitage had an excellent outing, as did tryscorer and man-of-the-match Jacob Phillips and most improved player Cameron Mulhearn.

The U8s were away to Doncaster Toll Bar, where the man-of-the-match award went to Michael Elders. Tryscorers were Dominic Judge (3), Ben Husband, Michael Elders and Connor Calam. Josh Harrison took the rising star award and Kailum Browne was top tackler.

The U10s kicked off their first game with a narrow 26-20 defeat to Headingley. They trailed 18-0 after 15 minutes and, with only eight players available, they were unable to make any substitutions, but a gritty second-half performance saw them claw back to 22-20 before a late try sealed the visitors' win.

Try-scorers were Charlie Hill (2) and top tackler Max Colley (2), the most improved player was Adam Shield and the man-of-the-match on his debut was Zak Johnson.
