POCKLINGTON Rugby Union Club Under-17s produced an excellent comeback to celebrate their first home Yorkshire League game with a 22-17 victory over Rotherham.

The U17s trailed by 12 points at one stage but stormed back to win thanks to tries by centres Mark Stringer (2), James Simpson and flanker Ryan Mooney, with Jack Daniels kicking one conversion.

The exciting victory was just one of five cliffhanger finales for Pocklington's junior sides - all five being decided by a one-score margin.

Pocklington U16s came from behind at Morley to snatch a 21-20 win thanks to touchdowns by centre Alex Lucas (2) and scrumhalf Gary Bell, with Alex Noble kicking three crucial conversions.

The U15s lost to a lastgasp score at home to York 21-28 after the two sides had looked set to share the spoils, while Pocklington's U14s edged a narrow 19-17 victory over Driffield. It was just as close for the U13s where Pocklington led until two minutes from time only to see Driffield cross to level the scores then keep their nerve to kick the winning conversion for 24-22.

Pocklington's mini-rugby sides, meanwhile, played their Goole counterparts, and on the whole came out with a series of more comfortable victories.

The U11s led the way with a 50-point victory, while the U10s won one and drew one of their double header with Goole.

And the U7s, U8s and U9s played their Goole opponents three times each - the U8s winning all three, the U9s winning two and drawing one, and the U7s winning two and losing one.
