ACOMB 'A' are the unlikely leaders after the opening games in the newly handicapped York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League.
They defeated their 'B' team 6-1 with wins by Jeff Meek, Ian Gillies, Marcus O'Boyle, Peter Lawson, Richard Harris (21, 22 breaks) and Keith Myers.
Kevin Ventress defeated his uncle Trevor Ventress to gain the 'B' team's sole point.
Ken Taylor had a black ball success against Ray Stamp to set Bootham 'A' on the way to a 5-2 victory over their 'B' team.
The other winners were Brendan Ledgeway, Colin Robinson, Brian Coulson and Barry Rankin. Chris Dawson and George Long replied for the 'B' team.
Fulford 'A' defeated their 'B' team 5-2. Wayne Puleston and Richard Stroughair put them 2-0 in front before Ray Thackway pulled one back for the 'B' team.
Simon England restored the lead only for Arthur Pegdon to keep the 'B' team in with a chance. However, Geoff Robinson and Peter Dunmore sealed the win for the 'A' team.
Heworth 'A' were the third team to record a 5-2 success aided by three black ball results. Tony Tennyson and Mark Winskill (42 break) moved the 'A' ahead but David Birch reduced the lead by beating Clive Whyte.
Steve Burdett and Jason Milner made it 4-1 only for Mal Harrison to take advantage of the handicaps to defeat Neil Wood. Kevin Gall took the last frame to give the 'A' team a 5-2 win.
