York Schoolboys under-15s followed their 5-0 away spanking of Spen Valley in the second round of the English Schools’ Cup with a 4-2 win over Scarborough in their first home game of the season.

Injury and holidays reduced the York squad to just 12 available players and they ended the clash with ten due to more knocks.

But they posted a fine win, all the more impressive after trailing at half-time to an opener from the visitors.

The second half was a significant contrast as the hosts rattled in four goals.

Harvey Rowson-Jeffery had a hand in the first three – scoring the first, winning a penalty for Jacob Rose to convert for the second and then teeing up Dylan Howlett for the third. Tom Robinson completed the scoring.

York lost Charlie Nogan and Howlett to strong challenges late on and Scarborough grabbed a stoppage time consolation goal.

Outstanding defender Tom Barnes took the man-of-the-match award.

The success over Spen Valley – earning a third round trip to Barnsley on November 12 – was started by a brace of Aaron Collis goals in the first half.

After the break, man-of-the match Jacob Rose (2) and Callum Hirst wrapped up the five-star win.
