Debutant Lewis Deucey scored a fantastic five tries as York Acorn ARLC Under-13s edged out Stanningley 30-28 in an end-to-end thriller.
Stanningley started the stronger but Acorn got themselves together with some great handling for man-of-the-match Reece Maynard to score.
The game ebbed and flowed, and saw some fine ball work from acting-half Max Sharpley and backs Owen Levers and Nathan Shepherd, with Maynard, who also added three goals, joining the line well from full-back. Deucey stole the limelight, though, with his marvellous nap hand.
York Acorn U11s only had eight players for the trip to Whinmoor Warriors but put in a terrific team performance involving solid defence and excellent attacking rugby to win 54-28.
Tries came from Callum Mckenzie, Ben Atkin, Josh Parker and Haiden Tindall, with parker adding the goals. Lawrence Lumb, Ben Lumby, Nathan Rushden and Jake Miller completed the committed octet.
