EAST is best again for a brace of Easingwold Golf Club ladies who have struck gold for the second time in three years.

Jackie Hateley, who plays off a handicap of seven, and nine-handicapper Ed Blogg captured the East Yorkshire Ladies Winter Golf Alliance crown in 2009.

Under competition rules, they were unable to defend the crown a year ago because the event was hosted at their own Easingwold GC.

But back in action this year the ace axis triumphed again to the delight of club members.

Said Easingwold GC lady captain Carol Knowles: “This was a fantastic win for Jackie and Ed and for Easingwold Golf Club.”

This year’s Alliance tournament started at Filey GC, where teams from 16 clubs competed in the match-play foursomes in gusty conditions.

Hateley and Blogg accounted for a Ganton pairing in the opening tie by the convincing margin of 6 and 4.

There then followed a more dramatic and tense encounter against a duo from Hessle, the tie not decided in Easingwold’s favour until the first extra hole thanks to Hateley chipping the ball into the cup.

That advanced Hateley and Blogg to the semi-finals, which were staged a week later at Flamborough GC.

They opened the day against a pairing from Beverley and clinched a 2 and 1 triumph which propelled them to the final.

Brough GC were the opposition and the duel was nip and tuck until Hateley produced the decisive stroke when sinking a two-foot putt on the 18th to clinch a one-up win and sheer delight for the duo resuming where they had left off in 2009 to continue their undefeated sequence.
