THE recent revelation that British Gas made record profits of £742 million was glibly explained by the company as “due to the extreme weather last winter”.

Furthermore, the profits are needed to fund the future green energy programme. This is cannot be true since the present prices charged have already been inflated by the inclusion of a “green energy tax”.

There is a genuine case for granting customers rebates from the extra profits from extreme winter weather, or it could be said British Gas and possibly other suppliers are exploiting the extreme weather.
