MULTI-PLATINUM selling mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins is set to perform in York next year.

The Welsh classical singer is just one of several new acts which have been booked to appear at York Barbican – from the Moscow City Ballet to Peppa Pig.

She will make her debut appearance at the entertainment venue on Wednesday, February 15 as part of her Daydream tour, her first theatre tour in three years.

Tickets went on sale today, priced from £27.50 to £65.

A Barbican spokeswoman said the singer was the first British classical crossover artist to have two number one albums in the same year and her third album, Living in a Dream, reached number 4 in the pop album charts.

“This tour coincides with the release of her latest album, Daydream, which debuted at Number 6 in the pop charts,” she said.

Katherine said it was a very intimate album and she wanted the tour to reflect that. “It’s a chance for my fans to see me up close and personal.”

Moscow City Ballet, accompanied by the Moscow City Ballet Orchestra, will perform Swan Lake on Sunday February 5 and Monday, February 6.

“Audiences can not only marvel at the perfection of its corps de ballet but witness the excellent technique and grace of principal dancers Alevtina Lapshina and Liliya Oryekhova,” said the spokeswoman.

Peppa Pig’s Treasure Hunt arrives at the Barbican on Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, and features Peppa, her brother George and friend Danny Dog getting up to fun and games on a day out on Grandad Dog’s boat.

Meanwhile, folk rockers The Waterboys will be appearing on March 22 after the release of their new album An Appointment with Mr Yeats.

“The Waterboys will be appearing in a new seven-piece line up including legendary fiddler Steve Wickham, Irish chanteuse Katie Kim, keyboard ace James Hallawell, lap steel/electric guitar maestro Melvin Duffy, bassman Marc Arciero and drummer Raplh Salmins,” said the spokeswoman.
