AN easier than expected passage into the second round of the Egham Trophy was enjoyed by York Indoor Bowling Club.

The in-form York ranks easily disposed of Featherstone 100-57.

Away from home, the team headed by Paul Humphreys, trailed 9-7 after 11 ends.

But they then took command in seven of the following eight ends for a 22-11 lead ultimately resulting in a 24-12 success.

Phil Emmerson’s team were involved in a tight game where singles were scored on 15 ends.

However, the York team came out on top. After taking the lead on the fifth end, they kept it throughout to finish 18-15 winners.

At home, both rinks were in one-sided games.

John Walker’s rink led 25-11 with two ends to play before dropping a five then a three en route to their eventual 25-19 triumph, while Dave Stroughair’s team finished two ends early with the margin of victory an emphatic 33-11.

Now the fireworks can start as York plot revenge in the next round.

That’s where they will play Scarborough, who knocked them out of last season’s competition.

The North Yorkshire duel will be played on November 6, with a noon start in both home and away matches.
