CREATIVE toddlers and their parents helped to celebrate the second birthday of the Space 109 Community Arts Centre, in York.

There was cake in all forms for little ones at the parent and toddler group event at the Walmgate centre where 15 families made cardboard cakes with pipecleaner candles and coloured in paper cakes, before treating themselves to some real birthday cake.

Claire Wilton, one of the founders, said the organisation was set up in 2009 as a creative space for parents to bring their kids along to, to play with paint and glue, without causing chaos at home, at a time when there was no provision for art activities for the under threes in York.

The party also provided the opportunity for organisers to relaunch their mother and baby art group, Make Space (formerly Parent Rescue), a social group for mothers with under ones.
