A DOCTOR from York has been honoured with a CBE for her work in as a consultant in public health.

Jennifer Carpenter was handed the award by Prince Charles in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace yesterday, where she joined other recipients of the honour.

Mrs Carpenter trained as a doctor in London and the south west before becoming a consultant in public health medicine.

She worked in the NHS as a Director of Public Health in Birmingham and York, eventually joining the Department of Health in 1995.

She now works as a Consultant in public health medicine in the NHS medical directorate of the Department of Health. She provides specialist public health input on national screening policy and programme implementation and commissioning policy for national specialised services and other NHS specialised services.

She is also involved in postgraduate training for public health including providing academic supervision.
