MY WIFE and I decided to dine in York on Saturday evening, and after arranging to meet with four others reserved a table at a restaurant a short walk from where we met our friends.

All of us are in our 50s.

Having almost reached the restaurant, we waited for a vehicle which was indicating and turning left into the road we were about to cross.

The next vehicle was some distance away with no indications of any turn, so we began to cross; at the halfway point this vehicle turned into our path causing two of us to stop or be hit.

I pointed to the front left indicator, hoping the driver would realise why we were crossing; his reaction was to give me two fingers and shout “**** off”.

Can I just thank this well-know local taxi firm for employing such a man; City of York Council must be so proud that they have licensed this man whose years at charm school were not wasted. Pity it was dark so I could not read his Hackney Licence number.
