More than a dozen Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers were involved in the hard Ampleforth 7 race around the grounds of Ampleforth Abbey.

There were hills aplenty but conditions underfoot were good and Cameron Choules had an excellent run to finish seventh out of the field of 85 in a time of 48 minutes and three seconds.

Paul Atkinson put in another fine performance to come 11th in 50.32.

Other results: Stewart Mechie 14th in 52.48, Rob Burn 16th in 53.16, Lorraine Hiles 23rd and third lady overall in 54.43, Joe Reynard 38th in 59.17, Carol Morrison (unattached) 47th in 62.49, Steve Billings 52nd in 63.01, Fran Jeffery 62nd in 64.43, Hilary Coventry 70th in 68.38, Kaye Mechie 71st in 68.51, Christine Burn 74th in 71.28, Ian Codling 76th in 74.53 and Marian Codling 85th in 88.01.

Five Harriers competed in race two of the NYSD Cross Country League at Scarborough’s Oliver’s Mount, where lone woman representative Christine Burn was a commendable 44th out of 57 in 32.53 in her cross-country debut.

New member Kevin Winfield was 48th in 31.37, with Merv Burn 58th in 32.16, Rob Burn 60th in 32.27 and Geoff Bullock 83rd in 35.36.

Cameron Choules posted ninth place out of 176 runners in the Pickering and Moors 10k. Jo Fambely was in 149th in 57.35 and Eileen Howell 164th in 62.29.

Meanwhile, Alan Harman was 96th out of 172 finishers in the Wistow 10 clocking 81.28.

Ian Codling came 116th out of 151 in 59.59 in the Autumn Breaker 10k in Blackpool’s Stanley Park. Marian Codling was 143rd in 69.31.
