A FORMER Selby student who went on to gain a first class degree at Newcastle University has won a regional accountancy prize.

Rachel Mann, who went to school in Selby at Brayton High School, now Brayton College, before studying accounting and mathematics at Newcastle, has been awarded the prize by the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants for her results in last year’s exams.

Rachel has worked in the audit department at Deloitte in Newcastle for three years. She gained the best marks in the ICAEW Advanced Stage exams, which she completed in 2010.

She said: “I joined Deloitte because I wanted to have the opportunity to gain a respected business qualification and, through the ACA from the ICAEW, I have been able to able to achieve this. I am delighted to have won this award and the ACA will continue to provide me with technical and practical knowledge as I continue my career.”

Dave Bowman, managing consultant in the finance division at Nigel Wright, presented the recruitment ,and management firm’s trophy for 2011 to Rachel at the Northern Society’s annual dinner at the Civic Centre last Thursday.
