WHITWELL-ON-THE-HILL’S Terry Temple claimed the scalp of former Premier League runner-up Mervyn King on his way to a last-16 appearance at the PDC German Darts Classic Players Championship.
Having earlier disposed of top-50 player Steve Maish 6-4, Temple defeated world number 11 King 6-2 and went on to defeat third round opponent Marko Kantele 6-3.
Temple’s run was eventually ended 6-2 by Colin Osborne, who went on to win the tournament.
A day earlier, at the first German Darts Classic Players Championship competition, Temple also claimed the scalp of former World Championship finalist Kirk Shepherd 6-4 before bowing out 6-3 to world number five Simon Whitlock.
Temple’s efforts in Gladbeck earned him £800 in prize money.
