Acomb Hockey Club men’s second team edged visiting Airedale II out of the second round of the League ‘E’ cup in a penalty shoot-out.
The home side started strongly and opened the scoring in the tenth minute when Andy Smith swept home with the ’keeper stranded.
After several good chances were spurned, a goal-bound strike by Andy Smith was deflected home by Chris Tetley.
The second half saw a revived Airedale strike twice early to level, before the penalty settler which Acomb won 4-2 to reach the semi-finals.
Despite taking the lead through Emily Watson, Acomb Ladies crashed 4-1 at Garforth in the Yorkshire League premier division.
