THE name of our city has changed several times since those terrifying legless legionaries first arrived here. I think it’s about time the name was changed again to reflect York’s present visionary status.
We have planning officers who willingly represent us without troubling us with the chore of electing them, Fairness Commissioners, hand-picked by our Chief Executive for their total independence, and now to cap it all we are to seek Sanctuary Status (The Press, September 27).
I suggest Utopia-on-Ouse, or if that sounds too tepid, how about Shangri-La-2?
William Dixon Smith, Welland Rise, Acomb, York.
