IT IS great news that the York ‘Treemendous’ tree-planting programme is now under way, with support already given or promised from individuals and businesses and with the full backing of the council and its officers (The Press, October 13).
Full credit must be given to Kate Lock, of the York Environment Forum, who started the ball rolling, and to the vital input of the Woodland Trust, The Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, Wheatlands Community Woodlands, Edible York, York Natural Environment Trust, York Tree Wardens and the British Trust of Conservation Volunteers.
Their enthusiasm and expertise will ensure that, with council support, the venture is assured of success. Other groups and individuals are asked to come on board too, to make this an outstanding community-led programme.
As the saying goes, ‘keep planting’.
Phillip Crowe, Clifton, York.
