THE migraine clinic at York Hospital has been recognised as the best in the country with an award from a national charity.

The clinic was nominated in the Migraine Action awards by patient Hilary Brown, after she received treatment for headaches she had suffered with for more than 50 years.

In her nomination, she spoke of the excellent care she had recieived before and after her treatment.

She said: “I felt I had, for the first time in years, a real understanding of my condition by a doctor.

“This resulted in a much better regime of medication to deal with my attacks and also for prevention.”

The award came as part of the charity’s Migraine Heroes Healthcare Awards. The awards are designed to give recognition to all the people and teams who support migraine sufferers.

Joanna Hamilton-Colclough, director of Migraine Action, has said: “It is important to recognise the huge difference that teams like that at the York Migraine Clinic can make to people with migraine.”

The clinic is led by consultant Dr Andrew Heald and is run by Dr Manuela Fontebasso and nurse Jill Murphy.
