THERE are many arguments for and against the idea of making York a City of Sanctuary.
I would ask City of York Council to consider this: York has no industry other than tourism, so if we invite refugees in numbers to the city we may well deter the visitors who make a major contribution to York’s economy. Visitors come to York to escape everyday life, to forget for a while the conflict of wars, poverty and such; a reality check will not be the experience they want.
If they stay away, what have we got left?
