IN REPLY to Coun Steward (Letters, October 14), I care very much about the NHS, as do the majority of people.

However there is clear evidence that the Conservative Party does not care about the NHS. Coun Steward has no understanding of the difference between people who care and those who do not.

To call my concern over the Health and Social Care Bill ‘point-scoring’ shows how little he understands what his party is doing to the NHS.

It is fine for those who can afford private healthcare to buy it, but the majority cannot afford to do so, as is clearly seen in the USA.

Government plans are leading this country’s NHS towards the American system which is driven by profit not care. Is this really what people voted for?

So to claim that the Conservative are investing in the NHS with a costly £200 million top-down reorganisation and with real cuts to funding shows that Coun Steward has no understanding of the Health and Social Care Bill.

Ask York Hospital or the GP users in Haxby, who will tell you clearly what is going on when it comes to cuts and charging.

Coun Tracey Simpson-Laing, Cabinet member for health housing & adult social services.
