POLICE are hunting a driver involved in a hit-and-run incident in which three cars were damaged in York city centre.

North Yorkshire Police want witnesses to come forward after a number of cars were damaged in the Micklegate area of the city at the weekend.

Three vehicles – a red Renault Clio, a silver Volvo V70 and a Volvo V50, which were parked in Priory Street – were hit by another vehicle overnight between 9pm on Friday, and 9am on Saturday.

The owners of the vehicles, which were left in parking bays at the side of the road, discovered the damage on Saturday morning and contacted the police.

Officers believe the offender left the scene in the direction of Micklegate and are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

PC Tom Copeland said: “The vehicle which is suspected of causing the damage did not stop at the scene. However it did leave some debris behind suggesting it also sustained some damage.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the damage being caused or saw a damaged vehicle driving through the city on Friday night or the early hours of Saturday morning to contact the police with information.

“I am also appealing to garage and body shop owners to get in touch if they have any suspicions about vehicles they are working on at the moment.”

Anyone who can help the police with their inquiries is urged to phone PC Copeland, on 0845 6060247.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be phoned anonymously on 0800 555 111.
