THE Liam Fox case once again shows our politicians in a poor light.

When found out, politicians try to lie their way out, followed by convoluted attempts to pass blame on to some defenceless junior.

If these ruses do not quell the flames, then comes the thespian ploy with acting worthy of an Oscar – the lowered eyes, the quivering lip and the shame-faced mea culpa admission is supposed to have the audience on their side.

Because politically it suits David Cameron, an initial investigation and report is completed within two days. When it suits ministers to have an affair kept quiet, they order a long-winded review, or a select committee which takes months or years to report back.

This action by Cameron shows that, like Tony Blair, he will do anything to make sure he stays publicly clean. Initial PM support, showing the public how apparently loyal they are, soon vanishes and the axe appears when any heat comes their way.
