THE owner of this black BMW caused a headache for council road teams – who resurfaced the road around the parked vehicle.

Despite notices warning drivers not to park in Field Lane, near the University of York yesterday, it seems that this driver failed to spot them and the work went ahead around the vehicle.

City of York Council said the road treatment was in its early stages, but that owner of the vehicle faced having it towed away if it caused further disruption to the work.

Andy Binner, head of highways service at the council, said: “The council always notifies residents in advance of any planned road works. Unfortunately the owner of this vehicle did not respond to our advance warnings and the police could not contact them either.

“So our contractors were left with no option but to work around the car.

“However, this was only the first stage of the road treatment process where micro asphalt is applied to the highway. The final part of the process is in approximately two weeks’ time and this patch will be dealt with then. So, we urge the owner of this vehicle to move the car or the council will need to seek assistance from the police to remove the car.”
