A CONTRACTOR is offering a £2,000 reward to help catch thieves who stole more than £33,000-worth of equipment from a disused mine near Selby.
Between 1pm on Saturday, September 17 and 6.30am on Monday, thieves entered Wistow Mine, which is currently undergoing demolition work, and stole a large quantity of machinery and cable.
The equipment includes a Red Euro Stripper wire stripper, a 16KVA generator, a Honda water pump, two petrol Stihl saws, aluminium, lead and copper cable, two stainless steel tanks, a DB-A2 Tripod and various tools and ladders. The owners of the equipment, HCL Equipment Contracts Ltd, have offered the reward.
PC Ben Pepper, of Selby Police, said: “The thieves would have needed a large vehicle to transport the goods and I am appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious in the area of the mine or the Wistow Common area to contact the police.
“I’m also appealing to anyone who may be offered the equipment for sale, in particular, the red Euro Stripper wire stripper which may be easy to identify as it was covered in tar. Plant and metal theft is big business at the moment and we advise people to be vigilant.” Anyone with information should phone Selby police on 0845 6060247.
