CURIOSITY certainly has not killed the cats in York, as a new white feline has been placed with 17 others on show on the city’s cat trail.

The new addition, which was created by Jonathan Newdick, was commissioned by The Cat Gallery shop and is located in Low Petergate.

The cat trail takes people on a journey around the city, telling them a bit about York’s history along the way.

The first cats were placed around the city in the 1920s by Thomas Aitcheson, a local grocer, to decorate his property. Other people then copied this idea, creating the concept for the trail.

Keith Mulhearn, who runs tour company Complete Yorkshire and officially launched the York Cat trail last year, said: “It has been fantastic to receive feedback from so many people.

“We have even been told of a cat we didn’t even know about.

“I’m positive the trail will become a very popular addition to the city’s list of things to do.”
